Azerbaijan shares its borders with Georgia and Russia in the north. To the west and south lie Armenia and Iran. Azerbaijan also shares a narrow stretch of border with Turkey. When it comes to travelling, Azerbaijan has both aerial and land routes. The capital, Baku, has the busiest airport in Azerbaijan, namely, Heydar Aliyev International Airport. This airport connects Azerbaijan to all major European cities and a few Asian and American cities. If you are travelling from across the world, it is recommended that you change flights in Dubai to reduce your expenses. Apart from the UAE, changing your flights in Saudi Arabia is also hassle-free and affordable.
The land route is well-connected to Georgia and Russia via trains. Though it is a convenient mode of travel, it can be terribly time-consuming depending on the time taken by the authorities to check at the border. Tourists should prefer travelling via air routes to save time and ensure that their travel is hassle-free. Apart from trains, it is possible to enter Azerbaijan by bus. Countries like Russia, Turkey, Iran, and Georgia would facilitate this segment of transport. This way of travelling is much cheaper. However, the bus stops are extremely chaotic and are not suitable for tourists again because of the checking at the borders. Thus, if you like travelling by land routes, hire a car and self-drive to save time. The view is great and your journey will be a memorable one.
You may have read that ferry service is available for visiting Azerbaijan. Yes, there are cargo ships that connect Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. However, if you are not a local, using this mode of transport is out of the question. First, the tickets are limited and it is difficult to get yourself a boarding pass. Second, there is no date and time finalized for the departure and you will be called an hour before the ship leaves for your chosen destination. Now, imagine you are on a trip and you have been given a gap of two days for the ship to depart. If you get a call suddenly, you may easily miss it! Third, when you purchase a passenger ticket to those cargo ships, you only pay for the allowance. After boarding the ship, you need to pay extra to get a bed or even take a shower. And, you also need to arrange for your food while you are on the ship for a couple of days. Thus, this mode of transport should not be on your list.
