Barbados Entry Requirements: Before arranging your vacation to Barbados, ensure you have all the necessary travel papers. All tourists to Barbados must have a valid passport and return ticket to enter the country. The passport must be valid for the entire time you will be in the country. A letter of authorization from a parent or guardian is also required for a youngster under the age of eighteen (18) travelling without a parent or guardian.

History of Barbados

Barbados is the Caribbean's easternmost island. The island was formed by the collision of the Atlantic crustal and Caribbean plates and a volcanic eruption and is less than one million years old. Coral grew later, reaching a depth of around 300 feet. It is geologically unusual since it comprises two landmasses that have fused over time.

Early History of Barbados
The early colonization is being rewritten due to new archaeological findings made at the Port St. Charles site. The settlement was approximately 1623 B.C., according to artefacts and evidence.

Amerindians from Venezuela were the first indigenous people to come. They paddled large dugout canoes over oceans and currents that modern sailing vessels face. A small sea canal known as the Dragon's Mouth runs north of Venezuela, serving as a funnel to the Caribbean Sea and the nearby island of Trinidad. It's a treacherous crossing with fast-moving water and cross currents. For an open dugout boat, the water is treacherous. But they came families and communities, explorers, descendants of the original people who crossed the Alaska land bridge and travelled south via Canada and the Americas.

They established their new home along the shore of Barbados, leaving little trace, merely a sliver of evidence for the archaeologist to date and fantasize about. Fragments of shell tools, utensils, waste, and burial sites reveal only the mystery of their period.

Amerindian Civilizations
In Barbados Arawaks' history, people with olive skin chained their foreheads as children to make them slope into a point. This, coupled with black and white body painting, was thought to be appealing. Nose plugs and rings made of copper and gold alloys were worn by the Caques (chiefs) and influential members of the tribe. Cotton, cassava, corn, peanuts, guavas, and papaws were among the crops they farmed (papaya). Armbands and hammocks were made from cotton. Casareep, a spice created from cassava, was pounded and grated. The Arawaks also fished for sustenance with harpoons, nets, and hooks.

1200 Carib Indians
The Caribs defeated the Arawaks in 1200. The Caribs were a taller and more powerful group of Amerindians than the Arawaks. They were exceptionally skilled bowmen who employed a potent poison to render their target unconscious. Barbados' culture is on the verge of extinction. In St Vincent, the Grenadies, and Dominica, pockets of the Kaligano culture in Barbados and people may be found. Dominica's Kalinago territories have the biggest population.

Portuguese
The Portuguese arrived in Barbados on their way to Brazil. The island was given the name Los Barbados (bearded ones) by the Portuguese navigator Pedro a Campos around this period. It got its name from the island's fig trees, which have a beard-like look.

1625-1644 English Colonization
The first English ship to touch the island, Captain John Powell's ship, arrived on May 14th, 1625. As a result, the island was claimed on behalf of King James I. Captain Henry Powell came with an army of 80 immigrants and ten slaves on February 17th, 1627, to occupy and establish the island. Holetown, formerly known as Jamestown, was the landing point for this voyage. In 1639, the colonists founded a House of Assembly. It was the world's third-ever Parliamentary Democracy (Barbados History).

The land was given to those with solid financial backgrounds and social ties to England. Within a few years, much of the area had been deforested to make space for tobacco and cotton crops.

Sugar cane was first introduced to agriculture in the 1630s. Sugar, tobacco, and cotton cultivation strongly depended on servants' indenture. White citizens who desire to move to another country may agree to work for a planter in Barbados for 5 or 7 years. To satisfy the labor demands, kidnapped slaves were used, and condemned felons were sent to Barbados. In Barbados, descendants of white slaves and indentured labor (known as Red Legs) still dwell among the black people in St. Martin's River and other east coast areas. They used to reside in caves in this area.

1644-1700 History of Slavery in Barbados
The Dutch merchants who were to supply Barbados with forced labor from West Africa created a potential market for slaves and sugar-making gear. Sierra Leone, Guinea, Ghana, the Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and Cameroon were slave countries. Although many slaves died on the trek from Africa, many thousands made it to their destination.

During these early years, Barbadians controlled the Caribbean sugar industry. The sugar plantation owners were wealthy merchants who arrived in Barbados early.

In the late 1600s, several natural calamities struck, including the locust epidemic of 1663, the Bridgetown fire, and a devastating storm in 1667. Drought in 1668 destroyed several plantations, and torrential rain in 1669 compounded their financial woes. Sugar and slaves, on the other hand, remained to be popular investments, as they were seen as having promising futures. Barbadians were no longer a dominating force in the sugar trade by 1720. The Leeward Islands and Jamaica had surpassed them in terms of population.

Abolition, insurrection, and emancipation, 1807-1838 After slavery in the Dominican Republic was abolished in 1834, many of Barbados' new citizens took advantage of the island's excellent educational opportunities. After receiving their education, these folks desired to do anything other than labor in the cane fields. Some of them rose to positions of power in Barbados. Others returned to their old employment while others lingered in the cane fields.

The environment and languid pace of life drew a large number of individuals to Barbados. The island was supposed to be a cure for "the vapors" at the time. Major George Washington accompanied his tuberculosis-stricken half-brother to the island in the hopes of curing his ailment (Barbados History)

In the History of Barbados, slavery was abolished in 1834, but not before a 4-year apprenticeship period. Free men worked a 45-hour week without pay in return for living in the plantation owners' small huts. In 1838, at the end of the apprenticeship period, nearly 70,000 Barbadians of African heritage took to the streets to celebrate their freedom from slavery, singing the Barbados traditional song:

1961-1966 History of Barbados Independence

Barbados was conquered by the British in 1627 and remained a British colony until 1961 when it was granted internal autonomy. The island obtained complete independence in 1966, although the Governor-General of Barbados maintains links to the British monarch. It belongs to the Commonwealth of Nations. The Democratic Labour Party's Right Honorable Errol Walton Barrow was the first leader of Barbados as a free country. The Barbados Labour Party, led by the current Prime Minister, The Honorable Mia Amor Mottley, is the other main political force.

History of Barbados Flag
The flag was raised for the first time in Barbados' flag history on November 30th 1966, the island's first Independence Day, when Lieutenant Hartley Dottin of the Barbados Regiment raised it for the first time.

It is made out of a triband of two ultramarine bands, one for the ocean encircling the nation and the other for the sky, split by a golden central band for the beach. The golden band is centered around a black trident head, known as the broken trident, and the absence of the staff is essential. The trident emblem was adapted from Barbados' colonial insignia, which depicted Poseidon's trident in the hands of Britannia. The fractured lower half represents a symbolic separation from the colony's status. The three points of the trident reflect the three ideals of democracy: 1) people's government, 2) people's government, and 3) people's government.

The crude birth rate is 12.23 per 1,000 people, while the natural death rate is 8.39 per 1,000. 11.63 newborn deaths per 1,000 live births is the infant mortality rate.

Religion in Barbados

The most popular religion followed in Barbados is Christianity, with Anglican being the most popular denomination (23.9 percent of Barbados population in 2019). Other Christian denominations with considerable followings in Barbados include the Catholic Church (administered by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgetown), Pentecostals (19.5%), Jehovah's Witnesses, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and Spiritual Baptists. Until the Barbados Parliament disestablished the Church of England as the official state religion after independence, the Church of England was the official state religion. Hinduism, Islam, the Bahá Faith, and Judaism are among the smaller faiths in Barbados.

The state is secular, ensuring everyone's freedom of religion or belief and including only symbolic allusions to a higher authority in the constitution's preamble.

Climate in Barbados

The nation has two seasons, one of which has much more rainfall than the other. This time, known as the "wet season," lasts from June to December. The "dry season," on the other hand, lasts from December to May. The annual rainfall varies between 1,000 and 2,300 mm (40 and 90 in). According to the Köppen climate classification system (Am), the climate in Barbados is rainy most of the time throughout the year. However, winds of 12 to 16 km/h (7 to 10 mph) are likely to occur. Overall, people experience somewhat tropical weather in Barbados.

Earthquakes, landslides, and storms are all rare natural disasters. During the rainy climate in Barbados, the nation is frequently spared the harshest effects of the region's tropical storms and hurricanes. Because of its position in the southeast Caribbean, the country is outside the main hurricane hit zone. A big storm strikes once every 26 years on average. Hurricane Janet, which slammed Barbados in 1955, was the last major hurricane to impact the island; Hurricane Tomas reached the island in 2010, although it only caused minor damage because it was only a Tropical Storm at the time.

The Carlisle Bay Beaches: Carlisle Bay, on the outskirts of Bridgetown, is one of Barbados' most beautiful places to see in Barbados. With stunning golden beaches and long stretches of crystal-clear blue oceans, this is one of the most enticing areas in Barbados to dip your toes in the water or set up a beach chair. Brownes Beach and Bayshore Beach are also worth a visit. Pebble Beach is one of the best bayside lengths. Wading in the tranquil water, renting a stand-up paddleboard, or simply resting on the beach are all possibilities.

Because the bay's water is shallow and the surf develops a white froth, it's been dubbed Soup Bowl by surfers all over the world.

As you reach Bathsheba Bay, the road descends from a high plateau to the ocean and follows the beachfront. The remnants of a stairway and structure may be seen in the waves, yet a restaurant and merchants selling goods are only a short distance away.

Animal Flower Cave: The Animal Flower Cave, located on Barbados' northern edge, is a must-see place in Barbados, not just for the Cave but also for the breathtaking views from the lookout above.

From February to April, visitors may watch humpback whales from the cliff above the Cave. Take a cave tour; it will only take you 15 to 20 minutes, and a guide will conduct it.

This exciting Cave is reached via a small stairway. Large natural vistas provide sea views, while pools produced by wave spray serve as reflecting ponds. These apertures also let in a lot of light, which helps to alleviate the claustrophobic feeling that comes with dark caves. A restaurant and a few sellers set up in booths selling items on the cliff-side above the Cave. The views from the restaurant are breathtaking. St. Nicholas Abbey: St. Nicholas Abbey's great Jacobean house was built in 1658, and the stories that have grown up around the abbey over the years are as fascinating as the plantation itself. Despite its name, the monastery was a plantation with no religious ties.

The property has had a number of owners throughout the years, but it is presently owned by Larry and Anna Warren, who purchased it in 2006. The estate has been restored and is currently being used to grow sugar cane. Shaded walkways wind through a mahogany woodland in this peaceful park. The Grenade Hall Forest and Signal Station are located across the parking lot from the reserve. This attraction is included in the price of admission to the zoo.

Harrison's Cave: If you've had enough of Barbados' scorching heat and want to escape to a more relaxed, darker environment, venture down to Harrison's Cave. A trip to this Cave is accessible to virtually everyone because the most effort required is boarding a tram vehicle.

Although the Cave is faintly illuminated, the Cave's famous stalagmites and stalactites are accentuated with special effect lighting making it enter the list of best places to see in Barbados. Flow stones, peaceful ponds, and flowing streams are among the attractions.

For those fortunate enough to be visiting Barbados on vacation, these are the top eateries on the island. These are the locations we'd all like you to dine on your Barbados vacation, from well-known BBQ joints to obscure eateries.

Blue Pineapple: Blue Pineapple and its sister venue Baby Doll, a two-minute walk up the boardwalk, are located near Rockley Beach and serve a variety of healthy yet filling meals such as Destroyed Avocado and the Persian Breakfast. It's VERY Instagrammable, with the sea only a meter away from your table, so make sure to shoot some photos.

Café Luna: It's all well and good to eat healthily, but there are times when you need to indulge. What's our advice? Order a plate of Cafe Luna's local pumpkin buttermilk pancakes with handmade banana cream on your way down to Miami Beach. If you want to appease your conscience, serve it with a side of fresh fruit. The view from the rooftop is also quite lovely.

Cala Roca: Travel to the West Coast for Cala Roca's Sunday Brunch if you're feeling extravagant (the sunlight helps). Everything from eggs and pancakes to grilled octopus and paella is on the menu. Allow how much 'unch' you want with your breakfast to determine your order. Cala Roca is also one of the few places to eat in the Dominican Republic where a good Canadian Bloody Caesar can be found. After all, it is the weekend.

Fish Pot: You'll probably have to travel to Fish Pot now because it's on the boundary of St Lucy, the island's northernmost parish. What's in it for you if you make the journey? Simply said, this is some of the most incredible seafood you've ever had. Whatever you order will be great, but make sure there is room on your table for the seafood curry, preferably in front of you. Three courses will set you back BBD$125 (about $80 Canadian), which is a fantastic price.

Almond Shak Deli: Almond Shak Deli is an authentic south coast hidden gem. It's a tiny little thing nestled away off Hastings Main Road, and you'll probably stroll right past it if you don't notice the curbside sign. That's a pity because you'll be missing out on one of the top places to eat in Barbados: a buffet of local cuisine with daily lunchtime specials for less than BBD$20. There is some (although limited) inside sitting available, or you can just take your box down to the beach.

Cutters of Barbados: The Barbados national sandwich is the flying fish cutter, and no place does it better than cutters of Barbados, a hidden little establishment on the east coast just down the road from The Crane. Spend a relaxing afternoon on its veranda, sipping the equally renowned rum punch, which is another fantastic Bajan lunchtime ritual. You may even bring a few bottles with you to keep the celebration going. Cutters is on the list of favorite lunch spots in Barbados, making it a delectable place to eat on the island.

La Cabane: The cuisine at La Cabane is excellent, but the environment is the actual draw: this restaurant is a stunning blend of beach, trees, canopies, and candlelight, making it possibly one of the most gorgeous and romantic places to eat in Barbados brimming with both. Add in a live band and sunsets that resemble Heaven's own Instagram filter, and you've got yourself a memorable evening.

The position is well-earned: Nishi is simply the best Japanese restaurant in Barbados, with a sushi bar that will keep you up all night. It's not the cheapest choice on the list, but we promise you'll know exactly where your money is going.

Oistins Fish Fryday: Okay, here's the deal: Oistins Fish Fry can go either way. Some individuals enjoy the vibrant environment, crowded seats, and loud music systems. Some folks find the whole experience too noisy and crowded, and while the fish is delicious, it makes this restaurant a few of the best places to eat in Barbados, where the seafood is delicious everywhere. However, it is a must-do while your time on the island, and for many visitors, it is the highlight of their vacation.

Carib Beach Bar: Carib is a Caribbean beach bar with everything you wish. For starters, it's on the beach - specifically, Worthen Beach. It also has a variety of brilliantly colored drinks, substantial comfort food, and a large selection of bottled beers.
